Volcanic eruptions have been occurring continuously on Indonesia's Mount Ruang since Wednesday. Here the volcano has erupted 5 times in 24 hours. In view of the danger, 11 thousand people living in the area around Ruang have been sent to safe places.
Disaster management officials have ordered to keep the airport closed for the next 24 hours. A tsunami warning has been issued due to the lava and ash flowing from the volcano. According to Al Jazeera, the first explosion on Mount Ruang occurred at 9:45 pm on Tuesday (April 16).
Due to this, thousands of feet high lava has risen and ash has spread. Earlier in 1871, the largest volcanic eruption ever occurred in Indonesia.
2 Volcano erupted due to earthquake
The disaster center in Indonesia is on alert mode. Disaster management officials say that there were two earthquakes recently near Mount Ruang. Because of this the tectonic plates became unstable, which caused volcanic eruptions.
Officials said that 20 rescue workers have been deployed to rescue the people. According to Aljazeera, Indonesia's Volcano Agency has issued a Level 4 warning in view of the danger. Apart from this, 6 km area near the volcano has been declared as exclusive zone.
120 active volcanoes in Indonesia
The chairman of Indonesia's Geological Agency said, "After the eruption of Ruang volcano, a cloud of ash rose up to a height of 2 km in the sky. After the second eruption, this height increased to 2.5 km." According to Al Jazeera, Indonesia falls in the 'Ring of Fire' area. There are horse-shoe shaped tectonic fault lines near the Pacific Ocean. There are 120 active volcanoes in the country.
Apart from this, the Airport Authority has canceled all flights at Ratulangi International Airport. Flights from this airport to China, Singapore and South Korea have been affected. The effect of the volcano is also visible in the neighboring country Malaysia. Many flights are getting delayed at Kinabalu International Airport in Malaysia.
